A common Northern Wisconsin saying is, “if you don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes.” While we always hope for the summer sun, we also recommend being prepared. We suggest bringing an inexpensive poncho or rain jacket just in case. We also recommend wearing sunscreen, a head covering, and casual shoes. Bring binoculars if you have them (though we do have a limited number onboard if needed). And don’t forget your cameras!

As long as no severe storm chance exists, expeditions will still operate in the rain. The boat is equipped with a full-length bimini for your comfort and convenience.

Cancellations due to severe weather events, including high winds, lightning, or severe storm conditions, will be determined by the Captain, and you will be notified no less two hours before embarkation time.

Any expedition cancelled in advance by Wild Empress will receive a full refund. Cancellations during an expedition for unforeseen weather changes will be pro-rated a refund for the time missed.

Any cancellation or rescheduling request by the guest more than 48 hours in advance is eligible for a refund of the deposit. Cancellations or rescheduling by the guest made less than 48 hours in advance will forfeit the deposit.

No-shows will forfeit the full cost of the expedition. Late arrivals (more than one hour after embarkation) will also forfeit the full cost of the expedition. Late arrivals will not be pro-rated a refund for time missed.

Each group is allowed no more than two dogs, provided they have signed the Guest Participation Waiver. The owner is solely responsible for the safety of the pet while onboard the vessel. The owner is also financially liable for any damage to the vessel which may be caused by their pet.

Service animals are always welcome provided the owner presents appropriate documentation.

Food and drinks may be brought onboard. We have a cooler onboard with water if needed.

Yes, with restrictions. Only wine and beer are permitted. Guests may not bring any hard alcohol onboard the vessel.

‍Wild Empress Expeditions is an immersive nature-viewing experience — we are not a party boat. We ask guests to keep all libations to an appropriate amount. The Captain does have ultimate authority to disembark any guest deemed unruly.

Animals are completely wild, and therefore unpredictable. While there is a good chance to see the most iconic animals of the Northwoods, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

However, when we do spot an animal, Wild Empress employs a responsible viewing experience. This means lowering our voices, minimizing extraneous noise, and keeping a minimum-disturbance distance. Wildlife viewing can be very rewarding when the animals remain calm enough to stick around! The Northwoods is full of exciting species of birds, land mammals, aquatic mammals, fish, trees, and aquatic plants.

There are no restrooms on board the vessel, however, there are establishments we can stop at if a restroom break is needed.

There are many deluxe hotels and resorts surrounding the Minocqua Lake Chain, all of which are a short, scenic ride to the boat landing. Premium accommodations include The Pointe Hotel & Suites, Beacons of Minocqua, The Pointe Resort & Club, Nitschke’s Northern Resort, and the Waters.

We cover the Minocqua Lake Chain which includes Minocqua, Kawaguesaga and Tomahawk Lakes. All three can potentially be covered in a single tour.

The standard meeting point will be at Schoolhouse Bay, located at 429 E. Park Ave, Minocqua, WI 54548. If you are staying at a local resort or hotel with a dock, arrangements can be made ahead of time for pickup at your lodging.

No. Your group, regardless of size, will be the only group on the boat. This is a completely private and bespoke tour, tailored to your specific interests.
